Academics

Our materials science and engineering (MSE) involves the study of advanced materials, including metals and their composites, polymers, silicon and biomaterials, and their possible uses in various applications. The field is multidisciplinary in nature, combining elements of physics, chemistry and biology, in addition to engineering.

MSE program has attracted outstanding faculty that help lead the country in areas of electronic materials, semiconductor processing and flexible electronics. Housed in the state-of-the art $85 million Natural Science and Engineering Research Laboratory (NSERL), MSE faculty members and students will continue to make large strides in tiny domains to impact the world. It is an exciting place for faculty and students to work on solving major societal problems in areas such as energy, biomedical engineering and electronics. With a focus on nanoscale materials and phenomena, the research is at the cutting edge of nanoelectronics, photovoltaics, batteries and super-capacitors, atomically precise manufacturing, nanosized coatings and materials for biomedical applications.
